James Lovelock: The Earth is about to catch a morbid fever that may last as long as 100,000 years

I read in Utne Reader's newsletter, Utne Web Watch, of a new book appearing 2.4.06, 'Revenge of Gaia', by British independent environmental scientist James Lovelock. I followed the link to The Independent, UK, and discovered it was a pay-per-view article. Forget that!

I googled 'Gaia's Revenge' then visited Creel Commission, - British musicians who reflect and write when not doing gigs. In 8.05, They interviewed James Lovelock, which was excellent, but so was the summary, Reflections On Meeting James Lovelock, plus much shorter.

That led to a long Wikipedia entry on Gaia Theory, then back to The Independent for an article by James Lovelock himself, 'The Earth is about to catch a morbid fever...'. That's what the pay-per-view link was about.

The moral of the story is, never pay for information online! It's always somewhere free and better.

Whether or not you agree with James Lovelock's theories, they are certainly compelling, and worth reading, and will feed lots of fascinating rants - I found a few of those and the book isn't even out yet. Look for 'Revenge of Gaia' in early February.

While you're waiting, read James Lovelock's 1979 book, 'Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth'. Find it the library, a good used bookstore, online, or if you're feeling flush, go to a bookstore and buy it. I read it in the eighties, and it turned my view of Life on Earth inside out.
