Looking For Vegetarian Sausage Recipes

Vegetarian sausage lover needs help finding recipes

I've been trying to find vegetarian sausage recipes, but can't seem to find any in all the book shops I've visited.

I'm probably looking at the wrong places, but I was hoping you could help me find all the different kinds of vegetarian sausage and their recipes.

I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks and Regards - R. E.

Savvy Vegetarian Advice

Dear R. E.,

Savvy Vegetarian Facebook Page

There's at least one vegan cookbook with a recipe for vegetarian sausage: Vegan Brunch by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. We tried that recipe once, it was very tasty, and also makes a lot of sausage! You're also sure to find vegetarian sausage recipes online.

I know you can make approximations of veg sausage, from falafel mix, or a veggie burger recipe, and cook them in sausage shapes, but that may not be quite what you're after.

If you can't find a recipe you like, you can buy veggie sausage and add it to almost any dish, such as pasta, soups and stews. Just make it up - food is very flexible.

Many non-vegetarian cookbooks have recipes including meat sausage, and you can easily substitute vegetarian sausage. There are several brands widely available.

Quinoa Recipe Ebook

I'm not a big fan of fake meat products myself. Highly processed meat substitutes like vegan sausage are usually high in sodium, and are often made with soy meal. Soy is a common allergen, and hard for some people to digest. And then there's the whole GMO thing.

Why not explore other sources of vegetarian protein? Like tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, high protein grains like quinoa, etc? The SV report on Vegetarian Nutrition has a lot of helpful information.

All the best! Judith Kingsbury, Savvy Vegetarian
