Just came across this article about privatization of water resources in Asia, in Common Dreams. Control of water resources by
multinational corporations in almost every country in the world, including the U.S., is a
major public health issue, because, inevitably, water becomes more scarce, and expensive,
and quality goes down significantly. Those hit hardest, of course, are the poor.
Last year sometime, there was a
excellent long article about this in Utne,
or maybe it was Mother Jones -
which you could probably find in their archives.
But this gets the point across nicely: "Water is such a basic need,
it should remain in the hands of the public."
