How To Cook Vegetarian - Savvy Vegetarian Tips, Techniques, Basic RecipesVegetarian Cooking For Non-Cooks, New Vegetarians, Or Anybody Who Wants To Eat Delicious Vegetarian FoodWhen I went vegetarian, back in the sixties, I had a lot of energy and enthusiasm. But I had a hard time cooking vegetarian, because I only had the vaguest idea what to cook, or how to cook it. There wasn't much help available for vegetarians. I ended up eating lots of cooked cheese, brown rice, overcooked broccoli and carrots, brown lentils - and not much else. I spent the next couple of decades learning what to eat and how to cook vegetarian, while I was a stay-at-home mom. Now, I know I was lucky to be able to do that, even though I felt hard done-by at the time. These days, vegetarianism is becoming main-stream, it's even cool to be vegetarian, and there's a lot more information and support available. But we've heard from many different people that cooking is still one of the biggest hurdles to going vegetarian:
But many people have also said they've realized that cooking is the easiest, cheapest way to eating well. We know that adopting a vegetarian diet is a big lifestyle change. It takes time and energy to develop new skills, and re-arrange your life. If you're reading this, you may be cooking challenged, but you probably already know why it's worth it to go vegetarian, and you're motivated to overcome the obstacles to a happy, healthy, vegetarian diet.
