Favorite Cookbooks and Cookbook Reviews

Savvy Veg Recommended Cookbooks For Easy, Delicious Veggie Food

We recommend the most useful vegetarian cookbooks we've found. They have easy healthy delicious recipes, clear directions, helpful cooking tips and hints, information about ingredients, nutrition, cooking techniques, equipment and resources. We read cookbooks thoroughly and test recipes before reviewing. And we only review a cookbook if we can say mainly positive things about it.

That's one reason why our list of cookbook reviews is so short! We're sure that there are many other good vegetarian cookbooks out there. We just haven't had time to review them yet! And of course we have our favorite cookbooks that we always fall back on.

The best vegetarian and vegan cookbooks teach you how to eat well, without spending all your time chained to the stove, busting your budget trying to feed yourself, or hassling with the non-vegetarians in your life.

When I went vegetarian in the sixties, I had a hard time cooking vegetarian, because I had only the vaguest idea what to cook, or how to cook - never mind nutrition! I ate lots of cheese, bread, brown rice, broccoli and carrots, lentils - a very heavy, brown diet.

I spent the next twenty years learning what vegetarian foods to eat and how to cook them. The biggest obstacle for me was a lack of vegetarian cookbooks with appealing recipes that my family would eat.

I learned how to cook vegetarian through much trial and error, and the results of my cooking experiments were often inedible. The Moosewood Cookbook, which came out in the seventies, was a life saver! Now there are so many vegetarian cookbooks, it's bewildering, and Savvy Vegetarian is bombarded with requests for cookbook reviews!
