Simple Vegetarian Recipe: Lemon And Honey Water

Simple, Delicious Digestive Tonic, Hot Water With Lemon & Honey

This is just hot water, with fresh lemon juice and honey added - warm lemonade. It's also an effective healing and digestive tonic. For variety, substitute fresh lime - also a wonderful tonic but not as acidic as lemon.

One important point to remember is that according to Ayurveda, honey shouldn't be heated much as it becomes toxic, so use hot but not boiling water for this recipe.

Use an organic lemon and raw honey to get the maxiumum benefit from this simple but satisfying drink. Some people swear by drinking honey & lemon (or lime) first thing in the morning to lose weight. Children love it too, but not with ginger!

Ingredients and Directions

  • 8 - 10 oz hot water
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Honey to taste
  • Pour the water in a cup, add the lemon juice, then the honey
  • Variations: use lime instead of lemon juice, or add a slice of fresh ginger, or a mint or basil leaf.
