I just wanted to mention two environmental articles I recently read, before they recede into the distance as I bob along on the fast-moving stream of life. Veggies For Ecology from FARM, lays out clearly and concisely all the ways that meat based industrial agriculture harms the environment. To sum up, "More than one million animals are raised and killed every hour to supply Americans with meat. This process destroys the environment... accelerating global warming and polluting the air, soil and water. Meat production also drains scarce land, water, and mineral resources." Read the Article. Greener Magazine: Sara Kate Kneidel, co-author of Veggie Revolution, writes June 30, 2006, about how to stop being Prisoners of the Pump. Rather than dwell on the admirable but for most people challenging strategy of bicycling to work, she gives a lot of practical and do-able ways to immediately make a big reduction in fuel consumption while driving our cars. I'd add to that list: work at home and go veg. Read the Article. permanent link to this entry |
