Quick and Easy Vegetarian or Vegan Recipe

Chocolate Lovers Serious Chocolate Chip Cookies

3 dozen 3 inch cookies: These are the ultimate chocolate chip cookies for serious chocolate lovers. Share them with friends - they are potent! Don't say I didn't warn you! - Sarah Kingsbury, Savvy Vegetarian

Cookie Ingredients (Vegan Version below):

  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup unbleached cane sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup melted semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 12 oz pkg semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 12 oz pkg white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional

Vegan Version:

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 Tblsp flax meal
  • 2 Tblsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup vegan butter substitute
  • 1/2 cup unbleached cane sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup melted semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips
  • 1 12 oz pkg semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips
  • 1 12 oz pkg white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Cookie Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
  2. Melt chocolate according to package directions and set aside
  3. Oil or spread wax paper on three baking sheets
  4. Mix dry ingredients and set aside
  5. Cream the butter or veg spread with the sugar until light and fluffy
  6. Cream in vanilla and eggs if you're using
  7. Mix melted chocolate into creamed mixture
  8. Mix in the dry ingredients with spoon or electric mixer
  9. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  10. Scoop two heaping tblsp at a time onto the baking sheets
  11. Bake one sheet at a time for 11 - 13 minutes (don't overbake!)
  12. Cool on pan two minutes, then transfer to cooling racks.
