Savvy Veg Remarks on The Best Vegan Books:
Vegan in 30 Days: dozens of practical tips to help you change your diet in a healthful, fun and successful way in as little as 30 days! Savvy Veg hasn’t read or reviewed it, but this book sounds like just what a new vegan needs - a plan, a blueprint, for successfully going vegan.
The Natural Vegan Kitchen weaves wholesome, unprocessed foods into dishes so delectable you won’t believe they’re good for you. We tested the Black Bean Soup Recipe, and it was a hit. Plus White Beans & Greens - simple, easy, elegant and yummy.
There are many more recipes I want to try, like Power Pancakes and Fruit Pizzas. Natural Vegan Kitchen is my kind of cookbook, although here in the midwest U.S., it’s impractical to use 100% fresh produce in the winter. No problemo - that’s why we have canned tomatoes! Read the Savvy Veg review .
Becoming Vegan: Major best-seller, and THE essential guide to adopting a plant-based diet. Savvy Vegetarian recommends this book for new & old vegans, or anyone wanting solid information about vegan diet and nutrition. The authors, Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, are long time vegan RDs, well-known, tops in their field. You couldn’t have better guides to becoming vegan.
I say, “Buy Becoming Vegan, keep it by your side and learn it by heart.” Davis & Melina’s other books include The New Becoming Vegetarian and Becoming Raw.
The 4 Ingredient Vegan: The recipes in this cookbook are easy, delicious, and quick. They’re all about using shortcut ingredients and time saving tips. Read the Savvy Vegetarian review for more info, and try the sample recipes, Artichoke Leek & White Bean Soup and Hearty One-Pot Lentil Vegetable Supper.
Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness: In addition to invaluable advice on creating a successful nutrition and training program are tools for motivation and commitment for any area of life. Author Robert Creech gives sound advice for vegan body builders. Much of his very high protein vegan body-building diet doesn’t apply to regular people who want to get fit and toned. But everybody who reads his book will be inspired because Robert is such a great guy!
Speed Vegan: illustrates that gourmet fare can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Savvy Veg found this cookbook both entertaining and intriguing. Author Alan Roettinger is a Real Chef who has a lot of fun in the kitchen, wielding a 10 inch chef’s knife at warp speed as he whips up mouth watering fast food.
The first two chapters of Speed Vegan, on stocking and equipping your kitchen are helpful and I agree with most of it. I got a belly laugh out of the recipe on pg 148 - how to make tasty food from the dubious odds & ends lurking in your fridge! Spaghetti with Olives & Lemon was sublime! I’m looking forward to trying many more of the recipes in >Speed Vegan.
Live Delicious, Eat Vegan, win some great vegan books!
