Tropical Fruit Smoothie Recipe: A taste of the tropics, with papaya, mango, pineapple, lime & orange juice, banana, optional sweetener and protein powder, delicious for breakfast or as a healthy dessert.
Right now we're wintering in Mexico, and of course we want to eat as much fabulous, fresh, ripe tropical fruit as we possibly can, because it's so abundant and inexpensive, nourishing and delicious, it makes our midwestern heads spin!
Vary the amounts and kinds of fruit to your taste and according to what you can find where you live. For instance, if you can't get a ripe papaya, add more mango or pineapple, or kiwi fruit, or use frozen fruit.

You don't need a high speed blender to make smoothies with soft ingredients. We used our Ordinary Oster Blender for this recipe, and it worked just fine. There may be more fiber in the smoothie though.
IMHO, ice dilutes the flavor and nutrition of smoothies, and should never be added. If you disagree, feel free to use ice as part of the liquid..
Re Sweeteners: If the fruit is sweet and ripe enough, your smoothie may not need sweetening, but that's a big if. Tropical fruit is often tart, and lime juice certainly is.
